What I Loved about being a Mom this Week

(Every week I try to reflect on some of the small things that made me happy as a Mom that week. It's a great way for me to start the new week with love and gratitude.)

1. This oh so very cute curl on her forehead.

2. A super fun bouncy water slide play date.

 3. Giving high fives in unideal situations.  :)

4. Having a boy that isn't afraid to help out his Momma, even if it involves carrying a purse.

5. How she thinks she is so cool wearing big brother's shoes.

6. Being silly with Wal-mart stickers.

7. Watching my kids bounce around like they own the place...(We obviously had a thing for bouncy houses this week)

8. How intense he is while playing with his Lego Minifigures.

9. How I know that with her determination, she will accomplish great things in her life.

10. The fact that there is nothing cooler to a kid than sparklers.

"Six Sticks" Craft

Have you read 6 Sticks by Molly Coxe? It is a darling beginning readers book about a pair of creative mice who discover lots of funny and wonderful things to create with six popsicle sticks. It is short and sweet but leaves room for lots and LOTS of discussion about what could be made with 6 sticks.

We decided to create our favorite scenes directly from the book but to add in my kids as the characters in the scene instead of the mice. The possibilities of what you could create with 6 popsicle sticks is endless though so this project would be fun just creating something unique, not from the book. This project took several days to complete, doing a little at a time. Here is how our artwork turned out.

No tutorial on this craft for you, sorry. It was just way too involved to try to explain every detail...But I can tell you how fun and exciting it was to include EVERY detail in our pictures, from the speckled leaves and string wrapped around the swings, to the textured grass and paper bag headed monster. If anyone has any specific questions on how we did anything, just leave a question in the comments and I will get back to you, promise.

My kids thought it was such a  hoot using them in the pictures. I will have to try this more often because they loved it so much.

Happy Crafting!!

Talking Animal Bag Clips and Magnetic List Pads Giveaway

This Giveaway is now closed.

Congratulations to Comment #14, Shauna, who is the Winner of the
Talking Animal Clips and Magnetic List Pads.

I am one of those "To Do List" type of gals. I've noticed that if I don't physically write it down on a list my brain feels like it has free reign to just forget about it. More importantly, tackling the schedule and motherhood duties of this family of five requires lists in order to keep me sane.

Do you know what my absolute favorite lists are?? Those oh so cute magnetic pad ones that you place on the fridge. They are heaven sent! The Organized Parent recently introduced me to a company called Galison who makes them and I have to say that I don't know if there is anyone who displays their magnetic list pads on their fridge as proudly as I do.   :)

I have reviewed products before that were fun, functional and unique but nothing that I use more on a regular basis like these Magnetic List Pads. I love them! One of my favorite features of these specific pads is that they include two sizes of pads, small and large. I love that if I'm in a hurry and need to just grab a couple items at the store, or need to hurry and jot down an address I can quickly use the smaller pad and not feel like I'm wasting a big list for a couple of items.

And don't even get me started on how cute the My Checklist Pad is! Isn't the design darling?! I really feel like having this list right on my fridge is going to help me stay organized and focused on what needs to get done during the week. It is definitely a keeper!

So I have to tell you...The Organized Parent spoiled me this month....Have you heard of Talking Bag Clips??
Since Summer is full of endless barbeques and eating out of bags (not to mention the long road trips with kids eating in the back seat), these clips are not only functional, but are simply FUN!

When you open the clip it makes the sound of the animal. They also sell an owl and cow. From first hand experience I can tell you how awesome these are. My kids LOVE them and I love them because I can always hear when my kids are getting into a snack. Plus they truly add even more joy into enjoying your snack.

The Company that makes them is called Kikkerland. They are amazing at bringing inventive new designs to mundane objects and tools. Take a peek at some of the fun products they offer.

What I Loved about being a Mom this Week

(Every week I try to reflect on some of the small things that made me happy as a Mom that week. It's a great way for me to start the new week with love and gratitude.)

1. How he would eat Cheerios for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I would let him.

2. How she insists on wearing her flower sunglasses when we go to check the mail.

3. The excitement over getting a new puzzle.

4. A successful "0 cavities" trip to the Dentist and new cool sunglasses from their toy box.

5. How my Mom reminded me this week that I was a climber when I was a toddler....That means even though she is naughty, naughty, naughty, she will probably outgrow it some day.  :)  (But I'm telling you, I can't turn my head for a second!)

Another one of Lila's naughty moments this week that I couldn't resisit showing you...Putting my sandals in the dog's water bowl.

6. That I got to play the Tooth Fairy for the second time this week.

Magnetic Tile Art GIVEAWAY

This Giveaway is now closed.
Congratulations to Comment #18, Hemanth, who is the winner of the Magnetic Tile Art Kit.

My boys jumped for joy when we opened up a package this week
and found this inside...

CraftProjectIdeas continually impresses me with their fun Activity Kits, and this Magnetic Tile Art Kit does not disappoint. My boys are already fans of magnets so imagine their excitement when they were able to design their very own!

The directions are very straight forward, and although the appropriate age listed on the box is 8+, the only thing my children needed assistance with was applying the decals to the magnets.

This project took an entire day, taking into account drying times between stages, so it was a perfect activity to help fill a summer day with fun.

One of my favorite things about the kit is how it comes with 10 magnetic tiles. Since there are so many tiles it becomes a great activity for siblings to share, rather than have to buy a separate kit for each child. In fact, there were so many tiles that my boys decided to let me in on the fun and I decorated a special tile for each of my boys.

Now we have fun personalized magnets to help display artwork on our fridge or on my children's magnetic boards in their bedroom. Thanks CraftProjectIdeas!!

This fun Magnetic Tile Art Kit can be purchased at your local Wal-Mart in the arts and crafts section. Isn't that convenient?!!

THE GIVEAWAY
CraftProjectIdeas wants you and your children to be a part of the fun so they are giving away one Go Create Magnetic Tile Art Kit to one lucky I Heart Crafty Things reader.

HERE IS HOW TO WIN: Please make sure your email is on your profile, or include it with your comment. Only U.S. residents are eligible for this giveaway. (Big apologies to all my International readers!)

Make sure you leave a separate comment for each entry:
  1. Visit CraftProjectIdeas and leave a comment here telling me which Go Create Kit you think your child would like best.
  2. Follow CraftProjectIdeas on Pinterest or Facebook and leave a comment telling me where you follow.
  3. Follow I Heart Crafty Things via Google Friend Connect, Linky Followers, Facebook or Twitter and leave a comment on this post telling me where you follow.
  4. Leave a comment telling me what your child's favorite summer activity is.
Giveaway will close Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10:00 am MST! Winners will be notified via email.

Roll a Goal Game

I was getting ready to throw away one of Lila's diaper boxes when it suddenly hit me that I could use it to make a fun game for my kids....A few cuts, some paint, glue and stickers and we developed a game called "Roll a Goal".

We gave the front of the box 2 good coats of paint, but the sides only got one coat since they weren't very visible while playing.

The yellow cardboard strips with the point value of each hole were just scraps from the top of the box that I cut off, and we used a sheet of stickers I had on hand to add the number values and name on the box. I bought the three pink balls from the Dollar Store like a year ago and they've been sitting in my craft closet waiting for an activity.  :)

Each turn the boys rolled all three balls down (one at a time) and we added up their score. For each game we did 10 turns (like bowling), and added up the total points to find the winner. This simple game was a HUGE hit with my boys! For preschoolers and Kindergartners you could use lower point values if you want them to get practice adding without assistance.

Who knew a diaper box could be so much fun?!!

Happy Crafting!
