Hanging Organizer Giveaway

This Giveaway is now closed.
Congratulations to Comment #38, Janiene from A Bunch of Bishops, who is the winner of the Lockerworks Hanging Organizer.

I have one super awesome giveaway today from The Organized Parent!! Let me introduce you to LockerWorks...

This sweet hanging organizer came about after a Mom was surprised to find a mess in her son's first locker in middle school. Genius, right?!! I can't tell you how much I wish I had one of these in my locker throughout middle school and high school. There is so much wasted space in the length of lockers so this design is perfect for utilizing space. I also love how it is narrow enough that you could easily hang a coat in a locker along with it. It is adjustable to fit full, half, or narrow lockers and can hold up to 35 lbs.

Although initially designed to organize lockers, this nifty system is also useful for any place that needs a little organization. It can hang on a shelf, on a rod or hooks. Since my children are young and don't have lockers at school, I was excited to be able to try out this product in my home. One of the things I dislike most about my house is the limited amount of storage. I have one small closet which I have to try to pack in all my linens, craft supplies, educational materials and the vacuum. It is a disaster, and honestly, I tell my family to just avoid opening the closet in the fear of mountains falling on him. Hahaha!

That is why this product is perfect for me! I was able to hang it in the closet in my boys' bedroom and it has doubled as extra storage for all those educational workbooks and materials I had in my storage closet. It is so sturdy! Since it has open-backed shelves, it can store odd shaped objects like wrapping paper or crafting supplies. I love it!

Summer Bucket List

So excited to get our Bucket List done this past week. We have never done one before but we will definitely make it a tradition every season now. It was great getting the whole family involved picking things we each wanted to do this Summer. My design was inspired by a Fall Bucket List created by Loves of Life. I took a desktop publishing class in College and it's been way too long since I used it to create anything, so this project was fun for me.

(Every Sunday I try to reflect on some of the small things that made me happy as a Mom that week. It's a great way for me to start the new week with love and gratitude.)

A little late on my post this week....

1. Otter Pops on the porch after a loooonnnngggggg morning of yard work.

2. Lego Star Wars Battles in the backyard.

3. Groovy sidewalk chalk creations.

These next two are Star Wars ships.

4. An evening of kicking around the soccer ball with my boys in the sunshine.

5.  How she found the perfect sized little chair!

6. Silly Bedtime chats with these handsome boys, like how if we could create a sandwich with all of our favorite things, what would be on it.

What I Loved about Being a Mom this Week

(Every Sunday I try to reflect on some of the small things that made me happy as a Mom that week. It's a great way for me to start the new week with love and gratitude.)

I took a break from blogging last Sunday on Mother's Day to go visit my Mom and one of my Grandma's so I'm including that from last week too.  :)

1. Peanut Butter toast for breakfast with a heart drawn on it for Mother's Day from my boys. They definitely know the way to my heart.  :)

2. Super cute gifts from my boys on Mother's Day. Here is a little peek...

It's true folks...I wear sweats and earrings, and that really is a picture of me laying in my bed on my laptop putting stuff on my blog (except I don't have a mullet IRL). I am not perfect but they still love me anyways.  :)

Luke's little drawings melted my ♥.

So I'm beginning to realize the majority of my pictures taken during the week involve Lila. This will definitely change in the Summer when the boys are out of school but for now, she really is my little sidekick every day.

3. A free fun day at the Cal Ranch Store seeing all the baby chicks, turkeys and ducks.

4. Free ice cream at Dickey's...Yum!!

5. Lots and lots of games of Peek-a-boo (terrible picture taken on my phone).

6. These fun moments at our favorite park...

Chasing birds

Looking for Bugs

Cute smiles

Brother and Sister moments

Small puddles to play in from the sprinklers

7. Seeing how much she wants to be a big girl.

This week we have Bugs, Father's Day gifts and making our Summer Bucket List on our agenda. It's going to be a good week, I can feel it!!  :)

Eric Carle Inspired Lady Bug

After seeing THIS darling Eric Carle Inspired Lady Bug on Pinterest, I couldn't resist but try to duplicate it. I don't know how to properly give credit other than to tell you it was pinned from Artsonia Art Museum and the Kindergarten artist who made it is named Weston.

We literally tried to re-make this masterpiece exactly as I saw it pictured because it was so amazing! I watched one of Luke's friends for a couple hours today so both her and Luke made one. They turned out frame-worthy for sure!!

I intended to take pictures of the process of making them but when I got my camera out my battery was dead. Drats! I'm sure you can figure out the process by looking at the picture as I did, but here are some of the materials we used.

For the blue background we used liquid watercolors. While the kids were painting it, while it was very wet, I sprinkled salt on it to get the fun texture shown. We have tried this technique with regular watercolors that you add water to, but it didn't work. Liquid watercolors is the way to go! After the watercolors were completely dried, we rubbed off the salt and were left with the fun texture.

For the grass we used a fork to paint the bottom of a sheet of cardstock paper and then cut it out after it was dried to glue to our background.

For the wings we glued orange and red tissue paper all over a circle and then used a paint brush to cover it completely with school glue to seal it in good and to give it a little bit of a shiny look. After it was dry we cut it in half.

We decided to use a circular sponge brush to paint on the black spots, and the antennae are two pieces of chenille stem bent and glued under the head.

The perfect story to go along with this craft is obviously The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle. It is a favorite at our house!

Happy Crafting!!

Father's Day "Walk in Your Shoes" Printable

Last year I made this gift for my hubby for Father's Day where I took pictures of my kids in Daddy's work boots and put them in a frame with the quote "With Every Step, I try to hard to Walk in your Shoes." You can see my blog post HERE about it. A very sweet lady left me a comment this morning asking if I had a printable for the quote.

To be completely honest, I made the little quote when I was a newbie to blogging and had no idea about all the fun, free fonts that were out there, so it wasn't that great. I went ahead and made a new printable with more pizazz for anyone if they are interested. I made one in black & white and color and sizes 4x6 or 5x7. Just click on the link below to which one you want and it will take you to Google Docs to download.

I've never made a printable like this before so if you come across anything weird and it needs changes, please let me know.  Thanks!  :)

Make sure when you go to print the Page Scaling option is set at "None" instead of "Fit to Printable Area".

Simple Bird Treats

To finish up learning about birds, we made some simple bird snacks to hang outside. I've seen these floating around blogland before, but most recently on A Day in the Life of the Brown Family. They are simple to make and involve lots of hands on fun for kids.

To make them we picked out a couple cookie cutter shapes and Luke pressed them into a slice of bread. Then he spread peanut butter all over one side of the shape. Next we poured some bird seed in a shallow dish and Luke pressed the shape down into the bird seed, covering the peanut butter completely.

I poked a hole in the shapes with a screw driver (that happened to sitting on the counter from husband Lol) and strung a piece of yard through it so we could hang them out on a tree.

We haven't actually witnessed a bird eating off of them yet, but half of one is completely missing so something was eating away at it.  :-)

We've had a fun go around with birds the last couple weeks. I'm a little sad to be moving on because it's one of my favorite subjects. In case you missed any of our fun crafts you can read more about them by clicking on the pictures below.

Getting Organized in Style--Design Ideas Giveaway

This Giveaway is now closed.
Congratulations to Comment #3, Lorie K., who is the winner of the Design Ideas Giveaway!

bills...
kids school work & papers...
homework & reminders...
crafts...
calendars and schedules....
receipts...

Are you seeing a theme to this list... Paper clutter! The truth is we ALL have it, and if I'm being completely honest, sometimes I feel like that paper clutter takes over certain areas of my house. The question is, how can we keep it organized?

The Organized Parent offers some fantastic options from Design Ideas that I am excited to tell you about today. They recently sent me their Flora Stuff Bin and Flora Paperbox to try out. My thoughts when I opened them up and held them in my hands for the first time, "Oh My Gosh, Where have you been all my life!??" Really people, I love, LOVE these products! I was completely surprised by how affordable they are too.

This is not just some ordinary box to hold your papers in. It is made out of sturdy paperboard and the pretty floral pattern is embossed over the entire box and lid. The soft blue lining adds an extra elegant look to the box and I really like the added detail of the label on the front of the box. This is definitely my idea of organizing my papers in style!

I ♥ this Flora Stuff Bin!! It was love at first sight when I opened it up and saw a cute circular sticker on it that said, "I'm Magnetic!" You better believe I gasped with excitement and ran as fast as I could to place it on my fridge to behold it's beauty. Yep folks, this bin is a delight! No more little papers on magnets all over my fridge. Things are now nicely stored in a beautiful magnetic box. You need to have one of these....Just sayin!

Just with these two items alone, I already feel better organized and less stressed about all my paper clutter. Check out a couple more of their fun items I've got my eye on.

Flora Letter Tray

Flora CD Box

Guess what the most exciting part is?? One lucky I Heart Crafty Things readers is going to get to try out the same products I did. Yep, it's giveaway time! But first...
